PREMISE.
Even when the sun rises high overhead, Gotham City stays cloaked in the darkness bred from greed, cruelty, and insanity. A breeding ground for suffering and injustice. Gotham has been shrouded in the darkest parts of humanity for as long as most can remember - that is, until one man rose from the shadows with the goal to take back the city from the monstrosities that had devoured it long ago. The Batman. Cloaked in the same darkness the city itself was known for, Batman appeared on the horizon, a Dark Knight worked to restore justice and hope to those who had long lost the ability to dream for either. And for a moment, it seemed like the caped crusader would actually be able to achieve his goal. People in Gotham began to sleep easier and breathe sighs of relief. But it wasn't meant to last. Just as order began to reform and refashion itself throughout Gotham's streets, a new form of darkness appeared in the form of a madman with one sick, chaotic sense of humor. The Joker became the catalyst for everything Batman had worked so hard to save - chaos and destruction followed him wherever he went. It wasn't a fight Batman was willing to lose, though, and so the two locked together in a battle of wits and strength. They fought for the very soul of the city they both called home, though at the end of the day, it seemed Batman had the advantage. And then the eclipse came. A seemingly mundane event in this day and age, solar eclipses happen as often as five times a year. While Ancients used to fear and revere the occurence, modern science had managed to strip all that superstition away with the cold hard facts. That is... until this one. The moon slipped between the earth and the sun, blotting out the light for a moment and, when sunlight shined down on Gotham once again... everything was different. It started chaotically - as would be imagined. The Joker, with his henchmen, pulled an escape from Arkham Asylum and, in the process, discovered a very new and very important change: he had developed a super power. Instantly, he took advantage of the ace up his sleeve and made changes to the city he was determined to control and plunge into the chaos and ruin he so craved. Within the blink of an eye, all of Gotham's old citizens vanished, pitched into some vaccuum somewhere and leaving the city a ghost town. And then, the Joker repopulated his new playground, pulling from alternate universes and fictional realms to give Gotham a little more flare. He barricaded the city off so that none of them could escape and then... the fun began. -- The Batman did his best to combat the power of the Joker, but things took a turn for a worse as the chaos that the madman delighted in began to take on a life of its own. The eclipse that had bestowed powers became the reason all of Gotham and its new inhabitants would be uprooted and ravaged yet again. An unnamed henchman with a new ability was the cause - with the capability of manipulating time and space, he managed to transport the entire city of Gotham into an alternate timeline. One where the Joker is in charge. Villains are the ones in charge here while the heroes are forced to hide in the shadows, making alliances underground and doing their best to defend the defenseless while staying off the radar of the Joker. They are left without homes, without money, and without safety while those who choose to join the Joker are provided housing, food, and money for their support. And where is Batman? Missing. Maybe even dead. There's no telling for sure, but there are rumors he's still alive, hidden away from the Joker while the citizens pray for him to rouse from his coma and restore Gotham by saving the desperate and giving hope once again to the hopeless. |
